THE EMPEROR JONES by Eugene O’Neill

I read this in a Penguin Books anthology of early plays by O’Neill. I’m a huge O’Neill fan but…meh. This just didn’t quite work. Some fantastic ideas and good sense of the stage but it never really came together. Even worse, there were several offensive passages and a totally anticlimactic ending. I think O’Neill was better writing about family dynamics. Oh well!
